France impressed against a disjointed Spain side, winning 1-0 at the Stade de France.
Spain were much changed from the team that disappointed so much at the World Cup. Xavi, Xabi Alonso and Andres Iniesta were all absent, through injury or retirement. Sergio Busquets and Cesc Fabregas were now the senior midfielders, augmented by the young Raul Garcia and Koke, backed up by Santi Cazorla, previously a reserve for the national side.
