The event was upgraded to Premier status in 1993 and the surface changed to outdoor hardcourts in 2008, when the tournament moved to its present-day venue of the Ariake Tennis Forest Park - which features the 10,000-seat Ariake Coliseum. Martina Hingis has the most titles in event history with five, her first coming as a 16-year-old in 1997. Other notable winners include four-time champs Lindsay Davenport, three-time champs Steffi Graf and Gabriela Sabatini, and Martina Navratilova, Maria Sharapova, Dinara Safina and Caroline Wozniacki. The lone Japanese winner was Kimiko Date-Krumm in 1995. Helena Sukova has the most doubles titles with five. WTA Tokyo | Finals - Order of Play & Results (21 Sept):[3] Ana Ivanovic (SRB) d [2] Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) 6-2 7-6(2)  With jaw-dropping power and precision, particularly off her forehand, Ana Ivanovic made 2014 the best season of her career on Sunday, beating Caroline Wozniacki to win the Toray Pan Pacific Open - and move closer to the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global. But from ad-in for the No.2-seeded Wozniacki in that game Ivanovic took complete control, winning 17 points in a row to take the set, 6-2. She had 19 winners to just nine errors in the set. Wozniacki started building some momentum from there - she broke serve for 3-1 second set and was up 30-15 in that game, just two points from a 4-1 lead. But the No.3-seeded Ivanovic came storming back, winning five of the next eight games to push the set to a tie-break, where she played almost flawlessly to clinch the victory, 6-2, 7-6(2). She finished it off with a huge hook forehand winner. "Caroline played a great match today," Ivanovic said afterwards. "It was a really good battle out there - there were some very tough moments, especially in the second set. But I just tried to take it one point at a time, and I'm really happy to make it through.
